Simple Plan’s concert at RBC Amphitheatre was their biggest show ever and it was really special to be there on Thursday night. Nothing makes you want to put your phone down faster than jumping up and down when Pierre Bouvier tells you to jump! They kicked off their sold out show with confetti and special effects instead of saving them for the end.
Pierre Bouvier is one of the best performers I’ve ever seen live. It’s amazing how he does all those kicks and jumps while kicking ass onstage as the lead singer.
Opener Josh Ramsay from Marianas Trench joked that he doesn’t do cardio because it’s built into his job. He runs around onstage and walks through the stands to get closer to fans.
But you can tell Pierre has a consistent fitness routine that makes his performance possible. Unlike Bryan Adams, he was never tethered to a microphone stand. We should all be so lucky to have that kind of energy and endurance in our forties! I’d be out of breath for sure.

Pierre joked about the Montreal-born band eating croissants as French Canadians. Then he mentioned how Canadians dream about escaping cold winters as a natural segue into their song Summer Paradise.
Only a week after attending Hilary Duff’s impressive concert at RBC Amphitheatre, Simple Plan also invited fans onstage efficiently. When Pierre invited fans in Scooby Doo costumes to dance to the theme song, a record number of fans quickly joined him. This time, there was no coordinated choreography necessary – just lots of chutzpah!

Overall, the Simple Plan concert was incredible. My only critique is that Pierre retreated to the back to play drums for I’m Just A Kid. He should’ve stayed to sing the most important song on the Bigger Than You Think Tour!
I first saw Simple Plan open for Avril Lavigne at Scotiabank Arena in 2024. Meeting Avril Lavigne’s mom at the end of the night was fun, but that’s not what made the experience stand out. I couldn’t believe that I just saw Simple Plan sing their greatest hits and I told myself I had to see them again as the main act. I was in shock because it was such an awesome and rare opportunity. Fans on Reddit agreed that Simple Plan overshadowed Avril Lavigne!

This time, Marianas Trench, Bowling for Soup and 3OH!3 were the supporting acts, which was another major throwback. A middle school teacher introduced me to Bowling For Soup’s 1985 song. And I met Marianas Trench drummer Ian Casselman at Western University frosh week. Every time the bands tried to identify “old school fans” who have been there since the beginning, I felt very old because I literally associate them with being a student.
I’d do anything to see Simple Plan again. I’ll be there in a heartbeat and I hope I can meet Pierre someday!
