When Netflix introduced The Kissing Booth franchise, I never thought I’d sit down with Joel Courtney. Our conversation was so much fun, it rivalled Joel Courtney and Joey King dancing in the arcade. Joel Courtney stars in the new romantic comedy 40 Dates And 40 Nights with Bailee Madison.
As soon as Joel reflected on filming the movie, it was immediately evident that the whole experience was a blast. Joel loved working with Bailee Madison, Annie Potts and the rest of the cast and crew. He said it was hard to contain his laughter in the opening pharmacy scene, which was the opposite of a meet cute.
Graduating from playing a high school student to a successful young professional was effortless for Joel. In 40 Dates And 40 Nights, Joel plays Mason, a 28 year old marketing director who starts collaborating with the toy manufacturer where Leah (Bailee Madison) works.
As Leah starts advocating for herself by sharing original designs for toys, her relationship with Mason naturally progresses too. The movie seamlessly integrates their professional and personal lives through lunch dates, post-work drinks and flirty chats at reception.
The toy brand’s head office was more than just a backdrop. It sparked a hilarious story about a core memory. In our interview, Joel lit up talking about a lightsaber. He clearly needs to order more for his friends and family to play with when he isn’t on set!
Joel got excited thinking about the possibility of filming a movie about Black Friday and capturing the chaos. Perhaps there’s a creative director who can cast him in an upcoming TV commercial? With the right comedic script, he could definitely drive sales.
