Sullivan’s Crossing is truly a special show and Andrea Menard is at the helm as Edna Cranebear. Whether she’s looking out for Maggie (Morgan Kohan) or managing a crisis, she’s always generous and reliable.
There’s something sweet about Edna’s marriage to Frank (Tom Jackson), as it’s the only stable relationship amidst the chaos. “He’s my favorite husband on television, he’s a good man and a great actor. We were always meant to come together and create more good in the world. So, thanks to [Virgin River creator] Roma [Roth] for bringing us together.”
Andrea Menard has been a staple in Canadian television for over twenty years, yet many of her friends didn’t pay attention to her acting until Sullivan’s Crossing. It’s her first globally accessible show. Many friends are “surprised they love the show” and rave about how good it makes them feel. Andrea notes they often tell her:
“Oh my gosh, your character is actually legit. You and Tom actually have legit, Indigenous storylines and this is great to see on television.”

Season 4 marks a pivotal time for Edna, as Sully (Scott Patterson) exits the show, leaving her and Frank in charge. Now that Sully’s gone, she’ll need to navigate her new leadership role with the community’s help.
I held back and didn’t ask about Chad Michael Murray until 10 minutes into the call. Andrea shared that “he’s a family man”. It’s nice to hear how they’ve all settled in Halifax, where they film and I was born. As for the rest of the cast, Andrea says, “I definitely feel like I’m an auntie of the set.”
After chatting with Lindura, who plays Sydney Shandon, it was fun to hear more about life behind the scenes for the cast in Nova Scotia.
