After upgrading my iPhone, I hopped on a plane without my camera! Thankfully, the Disney PhotoPass service is very reliable. Your phone will suffice for everything else on vacation like shopping and dining.
This winter marked my third time purchasing a package since 2018 and it won’t be my last. Disney’s photographers will help you capture the best moments at key landmarks. Then you can decide how to curate everything for social media or simply your own private albums.
The Disney PhotoPass is worth it, but my experience varied between the parks and the post-purchase experience at home. This review is based on my trips to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
Character Experiences Highlight The Value

Disney characters are arguably the main attraction and the meet and greets highlight the biggest advantage of Disney PhotoPass. When it’s your turn, you can smile and pose for a Disney photographer holding a professional camera. You can also give your phone or personal camera to another Disney cast member.
However, there’s a key distinction in quality between the two. The PhotoPass photographer captures your best angle, whereas the other employee typically takes several unflattering photos from a suboptimal angle.
That’s why I’m sharing a friendly warning and discussing the value of budgeting for Disney PhotoPass in advance.
Character experiences can require waiting in line for up to an hour and I want to help you avoid disappointment. Otherwise, you won’t notice the difference in quality until after you leave the lineup.
When I shared my observations with a Disney cast member at Hollywood Studios in 2025, he tapped his nose in response. That was the most he could do while on duty to confirm the character experiences are designed to promote PhotoPass. Even if the team acts generous about taking photos on your device, they must support the Disney industrial complex.
“Mickey is my boss,” a female cast member at Animal Kingdom told me this year. Well, I don’t report to Mickey Mouse, so here’s my unfiltered analysis of Disney PhotoPass.
Disney PhotoPass Pricing
Disney sells a Memory Maker One Day photo package for $85 USD. This is a great way to get high-quality photos from a single day of your vacation. It’s more affordable than picking 6+ individual photos to download. When everything is so cute, it would be hard to narrow it down!
However, there is only a deal available if you go to Disney theme parks for 3 or more days during one trip. That’s good value for young families visiting for the first time with a 7-day pass, but not for me. I’ve already spent a month of my life at Disney World!
Paying full price for 2 Memory Maker One Day packages was disappointing. On behalf of likeminded Disney adults, I don’t want to feel ripped off. Disney should offer another discount tier.
Disney PhotoPass Checkout Experience
The PhotoPass is so appealing, but the checkout process should be much smoother.
Memory Maker One Day packages should be clearly labelled by date and/or theme park name. That would offer clarity and peace of mind before a big purchase.
Instead of adding 2 photo packages to my cart, I ordered them separately to avoid potential errors. Totally unnecessary and inefficient!
The terms and conditions checkbox required to complete your purchase should be easier to find. If you’re ready to pay, but don’t see the legal terms, you’ll get a generic error message. It doesn’t explain why the purchase can’t be completed.
After filling out forms for contest entries and job applications, updating that error message to be more specific seems like an easy fix.
Post-Purchase Messaging Needs Improvement

The post-purchase messaging is also surprisingly messy compared to Disney’s polished communications. A revamp would eliminate frustration and confusion when fans return home.
The order confirmation page prompts you to share a social graphic on Facebook or Twitter/X that says “I’m Going To Walt Disney World Resort”.
Excuse me, but I just spent $500+ at Walt Disney World and now you want me to announce I’m going again?

Disney already sent me two very nice emails that said “thanks for being our guest”. If their CRM knows my vacation is over, why is the PhotoPass website out of sync?
Dare I say it, the PhotoPass website kind of looks like an intern set it up and no one QA’d it since.
Disney’s email confirmation with your order number and receipt makes sense for recordkeeping. However, the team should add a short onboarding note that explains where and how to download your photos.
Likewise, Disney should make it more intuitive to select and download all the photos you purchased – it’s not obvious. The button exists, but it’s kind of hidden.
Final Verdict: Disney PhotoPass Is 100% Worth It

Old photo albums prove how my early memories of Disney World convince me to go back again and again. It’s always a fun vacation hotspot to disconnect and see what’s new. The Disney PhotoPass has undeniable value, so making a few key improvements would help drive customer satisfaction and loyalty.
