Movie Review: Love Again

Love Again Priyanka Chopra Jonas Sam Heughan

The new movie Love Again is proof that romantic comedies make you feel good year-round. I hadn’t seen Priyanka Chopra Jonas since her brief appearance in Isn’t It Romantic and I enjoyed her main character energy.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas plays Mira, a grieving girlfriend whose world is turned upside down when her boyfriend suddenly dies right in front of her because of a drunk driver. A deleted scene shows that walking in on her parents convinces her to get back to her busy life in New York as a well-known children’s author. That scene shouldn’t have been cut, it was less than a minute and quite funny!

Then she decides to text her thoughts to her late boyfriend’s phone number, which ends up being received by a music critic named Rob. The movie focuses on Mira and Rob falling in love as he puts a face to the texts.

Celine Dion plays a major role too and it’s so rare for a singer to have so much screen time. I would love to sit on the floor cross-legged with Celine Dion and get relationship advice from her just like Rob!

It must have been so fun for the cast and crew to sing along to Celine Dion and have her on set. I have been a fan since the 90s and loved seeing her live in Las Vegas.

Many movies are driven by an epic soundtrack, but this one is unique because it features Celine Dion almost exclusively, including new music by her. Celine Dion was recently diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, so it’s nice to have this lighthearted movie as a tribute to her.

She isn’t the only one with a special cameo! Wait until you see Priyanka and her real-life husband Nick Jonas on a terrible date because he plays an obnoxious personal trainer. I’ll take any excuse to casually remind everyone about that time I met Nick Jonas in the rain in New York. It’s funny how the movie makes you fantasize about New York, but it was actually filmed in London!

Love Again is a low-key love story with big stars that offers a nice escape. I like how it celebrates a Canadian icon while poking fun at what it’s like to work in publishing.

Disclosure: I received a Blu-Ray copy of Love Again from Sony Pictures. Thank you!
