I met Sarah Pekkanen on one of my first trips to New York, a few days after my last exam in university. I discovered Sarah when I went to see Jennifer Weiner at a library and then I ordered her novel These Girls, which is about three women living and working in New York.
Being weird was normal at Centauri Summer Arts Camp. In my exit email at EA, I said I loved our creative coworkers because they reminded me of my friends at arts camp with more technical skills. It’s hard to find an environment like that.
As an only child, Barbie inspired me to be imaginative. Leading the marketing for the Kim Kardashian: Hollywood game and encouraging players to live vicariously through virtual dolls revived my interest. I’m excited about collecting Barbie dolls again!
Laurie Gelman went to Ryerson University and built her career as a Canadian media personality. Now Laurie lives in New York with executive producer Michael Gelman and their two daughters. She just launched her 3rd book with a star-studded party.
It’s amazing to see how Netflix transformed a classic book series into a modern TV series catered to Gen Z that’s still appealing to the millennial crowd who grew up with Ann M. Martin’s books. Watching The Baby-Sitters Club series is way better than how I experienced the movie on VHS in the 90’s. The movie was about them organizing a camp and I disliked the last two episodes set at camp.
Everything about The Baby-Sitters Club has improved, especially their style. For example, when Claudia puts on a preppy outfit to get ready for a quiz, she describes her look as “Ruth Bader Ginsburg chic”. Within a few episodes, I also spotted Claudia in red pants!
