Five Years Later

Hot On The Street - Birthday Cupcakes

Five years ago today, I wrote my first post on Tumblr called A Name Is Not A Number. A few things have changed since I wrote that post. How I Met Your Mother is no longer on the air, Up In The Air star George Clooney got married and Abercrombie reportedly changed their hiring approach. I also graduated university (although Western still has a prominent place on my site’s tag cloud).

I firmly believe that you can blog your way to a job, as Hot On The Street comes up in every job interview. My website is a piece of the internet that I proudly call my own and I love it.

Thank you for reading. Thank you for sharing content on social media that inspires me to write. Thank you for following along as I chronicled my experiences of meeting famous people. Thank you for your support. Please join me as I embark on the next chapter of Hot On The Street!

Movie Review: Iris

Iris Apfel

Style icon Iris Apfel initially entered my radar as a blogger when I interviewed a former Sears employee for my Behind the Brand series. The new documentary Iris portrays her lifestyle as a collector of couture and costume jewellery.

With support from her husband Carl, Iris fills her apartments (and a storage locker) with pieces from around the world that reflect her eclectic yet stylish taste. Their residences look clean, but purposefully cluttered. In addition to garments and accessories, they also have a large collection of books. Iris prides herself on knowing what’s happening in economics and politics. She recognizes how fashion trends reflect historical events and has lived long enough to confirm that eventually everything becomes trendy once again.

Travel With The Blue Jays

Hot On The Street - Toronto Blue Jays

Expedia partnered with the Blue Jays to build an online hub that lets fans easily see when the Jays are playing elsewhere and book a trip to see the away games with just a few clicks. Expedia always encourages customers to book airfare and accommodations together for better deals and baseball games provide a smart opportunity for them to engage travellers.

Their latest ads, which were produced by Grip, feature the team’s cute mascot Ace. ‘Wake Up Call’ has a funny front desk attendant who shouts bird noises into the phone to wake up Ace and in ‘Passport,’ we see Ace going through security with a suitcase that only looks big enough to fit his shoes.

Adrian Grenier Visits Toronto

Meet and greet alert! Entourage’s Adrian Grenier is coming to Toronto on Wednesday to meet fans at Hudson’s Bay (176 Yonge Street) across from the Toronto Eaton Centre. This is an exciting opportunity to meet the star and ask him about his career or personal life. There is a minimum purchase requirement for a photograph with him, but if you buy jeans and a t-shirt, then I’m sure you’ll be all set.

The event is only two days away so start shopping and thinking about what you’ll say to him!
