Why I Support Celebrities On LinkedIn

Gwen Stefani LinkedInAs soon as Gwen Stefani became a published writer on LinkedIn, the negative feedback started rolling in. I saw comments that said “RIP LinkedIn,” as if the social network is suddenly doomed to fail. I can support someone who complains about seeing too many personal updates on the platform, but I don’t think celebrities are to blame for the site’s potential demise.

I’m in favour of Gwen sharing business-oriented content with her fans because it allows the world to see an intelligent side of the entrepreneur. If Lauren Conrad signed up for LinkedIn, I’d probably want to read her posts too. I’m not saying they represent the world’s best writers, but I do think they have valuable insights to offer.

How To React To The New Chevrolet Malibu

When Facebook launched their new Reactions feature, I was curious to see how my friends and peers in the advertising industry would respond. It’s been around for about a week now and I have yet to use anything but the Like button; however, I think that’s simply a response to the type of content that has appeared in my news feed. If something was truly shocking or devastating, I wouldn’t hesitate to say “Wow!” with a click.

One of my favourite new ads capitalizes on Facebook’s Reactions to demonstrate how much their customers will love their latest product. To produce their one-minute spot “From Like to Love,” Chevrolet and their agency Commonwealth/McCann collected video clips from user-generated content. The videos capture typical moments that are shared on social media like kids’ first day of school and an engagement.

Movie Review: Teenage Paparazzo

After Entourage star Adrian Grenier met Austin Visschedyk, he convinced the teenage paparazzo to film a documentary with him about celebrity culture. Watching Teenage Paparazzo (2010) allows you to explore the parasocial relationships between celebrities and fans, which refers to fans’ disillusion that they know celebrities like they know their friends when really there is a one-way relationship. Without it, there would be less demand for celebrity gossip and photos.

The movie comprehensively captures the dynamic between celebrities and fans, as well as between celebrities and the paparazzi. To achieve this, Adrian interviewed academics and authors as well as well-established paparazzi and celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Eva Longoria. But most of the movie focuses on Austin, a self-assured teenager who invests in the best camera equipment to capture celebrities.

In Defence of Shoefies

Fall Shoefie

If you like taking pictures of your shoes, so what? No big deal. Personally I love taking shoefies and I’m not the only one because celebrities are on board with this popular Instagram trend too.

Likewise, shoe brands are capitalizing on the trend to connect with consumers and discover more user-generated content. Adidas recently worked with Wunderman to build relationships with youth in India whereby they encouraged shoppers to explore their communities in sneakers and document their travels. The campaign was a success and over 5,000 shofies were taken using the designated hashtags.
