Summer Fashion Update

Sarah Prince - Summer 2017 Fashion 4

I’ve felt more opinionated about fashion trends lately. I love statement sleeves – short and long, but you’ll never catch me in a tee with a cold shoulder. I believe that one day thousands of women will wake up and wonder why they spent so much $$$ on clothes with holes. Too many women look alike these days – what ever happened to expressing your individuality through personal style? As you can imagine, I’m not a fan of distressed jeans either.

How Axe Is Changing Attitudes About Gender

Axe Is It Ok For Guys

I still remember how excited Unilever’s team was when they announced that Axe was going to send some lucky guys to space. My peers shared their enthusiasm when we watched a teaser video together at Queen’s University in 2013, but that was the last time I really thought about the brand.

Axe just released a new ad that challenges common stereotypes about young men, which I love. This video makes me rethink what Axe stands for and I admire how it has the power to change consumers’ views about gender. In a way, this ad is long overdue. It’s 2017! Of course it’s ok for guys to wear pink (and not just on Wednesdays). So what if a boy doesn’t like sports?

I wish Axe didn’t have to include a question about depression because it should be obvious by now that guys have mental health issues too. The best article I read on Bell Let’s Talk Day was written by a local male marketer and that was one of many stories.

Step Into Spring With Sears

Sears Canada Experience Change TTC

When I received a cryptic event invitation to attend a special launch party for an undisclosed brand, I was intrigued. It seemed like a unique opportunity and I trusted the PR firm, so I signed up!

Stepping Up My Canadian Fashion Game

Pink Tartan

After attending the White Cashmere fashion show, I was eager to learn more about Canadian fashion and meet the brains behind it. When Women of Influence announced they were ending their speaker series for the year with Kimberly Newport-Mimran, the President & Head Designer of Pink Tartan, I quickly bought a ticket. Prior to the event, I saw her on a poster at the eyeglasses store Josephson’s in Forest Hill, which solidified her position as a national style icon.

When I focus on seeing speakers from the fashion and media industries, the events tend to be worthwhile and this one was no exception. Charles the Butler was not there, but Susie Sheffman was!

Christmas In July With Sears

Sears Canada

Toronto might be going through a heat wave, but inside Sears Canada’s media preview, it seemed like the holiday season is fast approaching. In other words, it’s not too early to start preparing a wish list or thinking about how you want to decorate your home.

In an effort to position themselves as fashion-forward, Sears is going to start selling a few very recognizable footwear brands, namely Circus by Sam Edelman, Unlisted by Kenneth Cole and Fergilicous by Fergie. These new shoe collections will be available in September and as long as you have enough storage space, I say go for it! I love my Sam Edelman ankle boots, but I never expected Sears to carry their products. I commend them for making a strong effort to keep up with the latest trends while offering affordable options.

It’s a lot easier to think positively about winter when you’re surrounded by all things red, black and white—my favourite colour scheme! What excites you about shopping for the holiday season?
