10 Reasons I Want To Be A Personal Shopper

I loved working on a fashion game and I’ve been thinking about what I want to do next. I wish I could talk about shopping all day! If money was not an issue, I would be a personal shopper. Here’s why:

  1. I love shopping. The lights, the music, the way you can escape everyday life by going to a store.
  2. I’m already a personal shopper for my friends and family. I became a fan of Lucky Brand because I recommended their clothes to my friend and eventually became a loyal customer myself.
  3. The communication and customer service skills that I use online as a social media manager can be applied offline. I used to sell theatre tickets and concert merchandise, which was fun!
  4. A lot of clothing stores are hiring salespeople with social media experience, so it makes sense.
  5. When I worked at Canadian Tire, I ran a Twitter account dedicated to weekly deals. I loved browsing flyers and sharing my favourite picks. If it’s functional and it’s on sale, you should buy it!
  6. Some clothes that wouldn’t work for me because of size or budget might be great for someone else. For example, I struggle with finding size 12 shoes, but I could share a ton of options for women with smaller feet.
  7. I grew up in an affluent community and I know how to connect with them.
  8. When I gave feedback for marketing art, I was very picky about what virtual dolls should wear. You can’t wear flip flops with that dress! You need nice shoes.
  9. Only select luxury stores offer personal shopping, so I would get an opportunity to promote top tier fashion brands. I’ve always wanted to work with Holt Renfrew!
  10. Helping customers in-store would reduce my screen time and be healthier than a desk job.

Another career option would be a stylist for TV and film, but that also doesn’t pay well. I don’t think this will ever happen because Toronto real estate is expensive, but a girl can daydream! Ideally I’d love to find a marketing job at a major retailer’s head office.
