I loved working on a fashion game and I’ve been thinking about what I want to do next. I wish I could talk about shopping all day! If money was not an issue, I would be a personal shopper. Here’s why:
- I love shopping. The lights, the music, the way you can escape everyday life by going to a store.
- I’m already a personal shopper for my friends and family. I became a fan of Lucky Brand because I recommended their clothes to my friend and eventually became a loyal customer myself.
- The communication and customer service skills that I use online as a social media manager can be applied offline. I used to sell theatre tickets and concert merchandise, which was fun!
- A lot of clothing stores are hiring salespeople with social media experience, so it makes sense.
- When I worked at Canadian Tire, I ran a Twitter account dedicated to weekly deals. I loved browsing flyers and sharing my favourite picks. If it’s functional and it’s on sale, you should buy it!
- Some clothes that wouldn’t work for me because of size or budget might be great for someone else. For example, I struggle with finding size 12 shoes, but I could share a ton of options for women with smaller feet.
- I grew up in an affluent community and I know how to connect with them.
- When I gave feedback for marketing art, I was very picky about what virtual dolls should wear. You can’t wear flip flops with that dress! You need nice shoes.
- Only select luxury stores offer personal shopping, so I would get an opportunity to promote top tier fashion brands. I’ve always wanted to work with Holt Renfrew!
- Helping customers in-store would reduce my screen time and be healthier than a desk job.
Another career option would be a stylist for TV and film, but that also doesn’t pay well. I don’t think this will ever happen because Toronto real estate is expensive, but a girl can daydream! Ideally I’d love to find a marketing job at a major retailer’s head office.
