Somehow, I’ve been leaning towards buying more casual clothes with visible logos lately. I bought a Levi’s t-shirt, Adidas leggings and Calvin Klein sports bras. I want to unpack how this happened because it’s unusual.
Levi’s
When I find myself getting stuck deciding what to wear, I’ll buy something new. Then the next time I have the same dilemma, I’ll wear the new clothing so I can get ready faster.
At the beginning of quarantine, I wore my favourite light blue V-neck t-shirt from Gap to the grocery store. When I took Greek yogurt off the shelf, it exploded all over the floor and on my clothes! After that, I was hesitant to wear nice clothes to go grocery shopping, which was the primary reason I went out during lockdown.
Shortly after that I found a black Levi’s logo t-shirt and it was the perfect fit. Good length and loose, but not too loose. It was something decent to wear in public, but if I spilled yogurt on it again by accident, I wouldn’t be attached to it. Now it’s one of my go-to tops!
If I make real plans beyond the grocery store, I still have a closet full of logo-free casual clothes that make a better impression.
Adidas
A few years ago, my friend Kelly wore Adidas black pants with the white stripes and she made it look chic. She’s a publicist who knows what to wear for every occasion – costume party, wedding or dinner at Jack Astor’s.
Buying cotton leggings is not an easy mission, so I was excited to find Adidas leggings on sale. Add to cart! I ended up buying plain black Hue leggings for exercising, which are perfect, whereas the Adidas leggings are more street style. Why pay for a logo that no one will see?
Well, the same day that I decided to keep the Adidas leggings, I went for a walk. I saw at least 3-5 people wearing Adidas pants, leggings and sweatshirts! I left the apartment feeling happy about my new purchase and by the time I came home, I realized how saturated they are – almost like tie dye!
Another obvious reason I want to keep my Adidas leggings is that the Kardashians have a long-term relationship with the brand, so wearing Adidas feels like a natural choice as a fan. I’ll keep them, but add my own twist to stand out while wearing one of the most popular logos.
Calvin Klein
Once again, I have a preference for all things cotton and apparently cotton sports bras are incredibly hard to find! The best one I found so far is the cult-favourite Calvin Klein cotton bralette. After seeing it on Instagram, I ordered it online and I was happy.
At first, I was reluctant to replace my colorful Aerie bras with multiple Calvin Klein logo bras. Like I said, why pay for a logo that no one will see? And if I owned several, wouldn’t that be kind of tacky? Well, in the process of writing this post, I changed my mind. Now I own 3 in black and grey and I might order one more! Oh and it’s definitely possible this purchase was inspired by Kim too.
I’m happy with the branded clothing I’ve found this year, but it still makes me wonder if my style is going backwards. Last year I wrote about how I was embarrassed to be seen in my Coach boots and now I’ve bought 3 types of casual clothes with large logos within a few months. What’s going on? Well, quarantine has given all of us a reason to take a laidback approach to fashion. Apparently for me, that meant rethinking my approach to logos. And I got the Calvin Klein bra to do YouTube workouts, so it’s all justified!
