It’s been 9 years since I published my first blog post!
11 months before that, I joined Twitter. That was my first real introduction to social media after Facebook. Twitter let me easily share what’s happening and connect with people all over the world, beyond my immediate circle of family and friends. It came naturally to me and I loved it.
One of my most notable and recent meet and greets was saying hi to Twitter’s CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey. It was very last minute. I opened Twitter at the right time and saw him announce that he was in Toronto and hosting an event. I barely had time to prepare anything in advance, including my outfit. It didn’t matter because he was very friendly and casual. I noticed that the excitement of our conversation lasted longer than most of my celebrity encounters. That’s probably because Twitter has changed my life more than any TV show or book.
When I met Kelly Cutrone at Indigo in 2010, I realized that Facebook and Twitter were not enough. I needed a space to write longer commentary and share detailed stories. So, I announced in a Facebook note that I was launching a blog and it’s still going strong today.
A few weeks ago, I went to a fashion industry event and met another content creator named Dee Silkie. She said I reminded her of Kelly Cutrone, which really brought this journey full circle. When I met Kelly, I wanted to be like her. I read her books, watched her on TV and followed her online. I’m not saying I’m the PR guru of Toronto, but perhaps Dee’s comment means I’m getting closer and that’s a good sign. Now I’m excited to watch the revival of The Hills!
Slowly, but surely, Hot On The Street is getting noticed and I love receiving fun surprises about new opportunities in my inbox. Some of the emails are totally random, like why did I end up on a mailing list for press releases about porn? Or, why am I receiving messages in French? Unsubscribe. Aside from those, it’s nice to know that more publicists have put Hot On The Street on their radar, including in the U.S.
Thanks for following along as I document meeting famous people! Sometimes it’s glamorous, but sometimes I just scramble to write notes about an event before security kicks me out.
