Why I Finally Stopped Wearing Flip Flops

Old Navy Flip Flops and Prince Hat

Breaking my ankle forced me to change which shoes I wear at home. I tried cute, furry slippers as a kid, but always abandoned them. In the last 10 years or so, I’ve worn Old Navy flip flops around the apartment nonstop. I’ve alternated different pairs and love my royal blue ones.

Yes, I’m aware that flip flops are bad for you. I’ve seen them ridiculed in many articles, but I ignored the comments and slipped them on at home daily. The only time I regretted wearing them was when I visited Madame Tussauds in Las Vegas.

A Taste Of Disney Dining

My recent vacations involved lots of shopping and good food, and my last visit to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida was no exception. My mom and I stayed at the Hilton Lake Buena Vista, which is near Disney Springs. This was our first time staying offsite and Uber made it easy to get around.

On our first morning in Orlando, we ate breakfast in the hotel at Covington Mill. I had a vegetarian burrito with grapefruit juice, which was so good that I insisted we return another morning, so I could order it again. On the first day, I was fully energized to go to Madame Tussauds and didn’t need to eat anything until after we finished taking 300 pictures with wax figures. I’m not exaggerating!

My post-modelling snack was probably the best (and most ironic) part: two scoops of cookie dough ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s! After some shopping at Macy’s and Sephora, we went to the Cheesecake Factory. Thankfully the lineup for a table at the Mall of Millenia was short compared to the new Cheesecake Factory at Yorkdale, which I haven’t visited yet.

The Backstreet Boys are back, making their small screen debut in Old Navy commercials prior to their upcoming reunion tour with Kevin Richardson reuniting with the boy band. An Old Navy staffer has explained that their “target customer grew up in the ’90s, and that time period conjures an emotional connection, so [they’ve] worked with a number of actors and musicians who remind her of that nostalgic decade.” (Source: Bloomberg)

In case that doesn’t satisfy your longing to see your favourite stars of the past, Old Navy has followed up with newer commercials featuring Joan Rivers (notably a hilarious woman on Twitter too) and Sex and the City star Mario Cantone. I’d love to meet the Fashion Police co-host, but so far I’ve had to settle for posing with Joan’s wax figure at Madame Tussauds’ Las Vegas location. What’s more, Old Navy has jumped at the opportunity to make interactive YouTube videos, enabling fans to watch different clips of Mario and Joan at faux fashion shows online.
