Book Review: Love At First Like

While following Hannah Orenstein on social media, I’ve watched her become a published author, in a totally non-creepy way. Once I received an advance copy of her second novel, Love At First Like, I finally understood her success. It’s because her writing is incredible. Unfortunately, it took me a long time to truly get it because I’ve spent too much time on Instagram and not enough time reading books.

Now Hannah has a new novel about how Instagram has changed our society, so it’s perfect for me! Love At First Like gives new meaning to “doing it for the ‘gram”.

Get Inspired By Kate Spade

Kate Spade has always been one of the top brands on social media in my opinion. Sometimes I named them in job interviews when asked for an example of a brand that’s killing it on social. They have beautiful products, stunning visuals and a recognizable voice. Kate Spade is truly a brand that knows what they’re doing in-store and online.

I was delighted to find out about a new feature on Kate Spade’s website called Unlock Your Heart. By following a few steps, you can instantly create shareable content using Kate Spade’s new tool. Kate Spade’s team knows their customers love reading inspirational messages and now it’s possible to create your own graphics with their branding. Overall, I’ve found that some inspirational messages sound too cheesy, generic or girly, but Kate Spade has so many options that you’re likely to find one (or more!) that you enjoy.

3 Examples Of Survey Templates For Instagram Stories

Sarah Prince Instagram Stories

I love Instagram Stories and I rarely look at Snapchat anymore. I like how it’s easy to produce content for Instagram Stories because there’s less emphasis on perfection. You can just snap a photo or record a short video, add text overlay (like a hashtag or your location for context) and/or emoji, and then you’re ready to share! With the new Type feature, you could even eliminate graphics from the equation if you’d prefer to make it a text-based post.

The latest trend on social media is all about creating and filling out survey templates designed for Instagram Stories that let your followers get to know you. For example, you might identify your favourite foods or reveal exactly how many Netflix shows you’ve binge watched. It’s become popular because it’s light and fun to share!

Typically, bloggers or illustrators who are super active on Instagram design the surveys you see. I would like to show you how some major brands are using their resources to make their own surveys and encourage fans to share.

How To Celebrate Social Media Milestones

Reaching certain social media milestones, such as reaching a benchmark in your number of followers, can be very exciting for a social media manager. What’s more, you may be pleasantly surprised to discover how much your followers want to celebrate with you. That’s why it’s beneficial to plan ahead and prepare a mini content strategy that you will be ready to execute when you see those magical numbers.

I’m a bit of a screenshot-aholic and some of the photos I’ve collected are posts that my favourite brands published when they acquired lots of followers. Now I’d like to share some of my top picks with you and I hope they will inspire your social media marketing.

Justin Trudeau

Once Canada’s Prime Minister acquired 2 million Facebook fans, his team produced a short video to describe their demographics. Every Facebook page admin has access to these kinds of insights, so it was easy to create, but the average person couldn’t see this information until the video was released and probably found it interesting. By listing the distant locations of where his fans live, he cemented his position as a global leader while expressing gratitude for their support. The video was so engaging that even TV personality Jillian Harris liked it!

In Defence of Shoefies

Fall Shoefie

If you like taking pictures of your shoes, so what? No big deal. Personally I love taking shoefies and I’m not the only one because celebrities are on board with this popular Instagram trend too.

Likewise, shoe brands are capitalizing on the trend to connect with consumers and discover more user-generated content. Adidas recently worked with Wunderman to build relationships with youth in India whereby they encouraged shoppers to explore their communities in sneakers and document their travels. The campaign was a success and over 5,000 shofies were taken using the designated hashtags.
