Hotspot: Miraj Hammam Spa (Shangri-La)

My invitation for a facial at the Miraj Hammam Spa inside Toronto’s Shangri-La hotel could not have come at a better time, as I had a chance to exfoliate my skin a few days before a portrait session.

Time flies when you’re in a luxurious and relaxing environment being pampered by a professional esthetician. The reception area was quiet when I arrived on a weeknight and inside the atmosphere was even more tranquil. The overall interior design is kind of dark, so it might make you sleepy if you go in the morning or afternoon.

In Defence of Shoefies

Fall Shoefie

If you like taking pictures of your shoes, so what? No big deal. Personally I love taking shoefies and I’m not the only one because celebrities are on board with this popular Instagram trend too.

Likewise, shoe brands are capitalizing on the trend to connect with consumers and discover more user-generated content. Adidas recently worked with Wunderman to build relationships with youth in India whereby they encouraged shoppers to explore their communities in sneakers and document their travels. The campaign was a success and over 5,000 shofies were taken using the designated hashtags.

Cooking With Flare at World MasterCard Fashion Week

Hot On The Street - Cooking With Flare

When I anticipated eating a special brunch at World MasterCard Fashion Week inside the tent, I knew the food would be better than quick service fare, but Flare and Metro’s chefs exceeded my expectations. As soon as Flare’s editor-in-chief Cameron Williamson humbly introduced himself at the entrance, I knew I was in for a treat. Soon we were offered glasses of sparkling water and then escorted to the beautifully decorated main room, where a long candlelit table extended down the runway.

It was the kind of event where everyone shared my enthusiasm for Texture by Next Issue and that made me happy. We all enjoyed a delicious four course meal, which included a beet salad, mushroom pasta, fish and dessert, and each course was introduced by a different chef and model.

Hotspot: Canada’s Wonderland

Hot On The Street - Canada's Wonderland - Backlot Stunt Coaster - Sarah Prince

I covered most of Toronto’s tourist attractions while growing up in the city, but it’s fun to return to your favourite spots with a new perspective as an adult. I recently went to Canada’s Wonderland to experience the thrill of riding roller coasters and escape city life for the day.

My favourite ride is definitely The Fly. It’s slower than the Backlot Stunt Coaster, which I also liked, but fast enough to feel like a mini adventure. Thunder Run comes at a close second, while the wooden ride Wild Beast was too shaky for me. Next time, I’d love to ride in a log on Timberwolf Falls.

The highlight of my day at Wonderland was crossing something off my bucket list: riding Drop Tower, formerly known as Drop Zone. The short line didn’t give me much time to think about what I was about to do. I went on it with an open mind. When we got to the top, I had a few seconds to enjoy an incredible view of the park and the surrounding area in Vaughan. After that, we quickly plunged back to the bottom and then it was over. I did it! And I was proud of conquering my fear.

Beyond the rides, I noticed how many food franchises have opened at Wonderland since my last visit. In addition to Pizza Pizza, they now have SUBWAY, Starbucks and Manchu Wok to name a few. Thankfully their website clearly lists peanut-free dining options so I knew where I could safely eat upon arrival.

Going to Wonderland was a lot of fun, but I don’t think I’ll necessarily return next summer. Now that I’ve been to Las Vegas a few times, I prefer the thrill of gambling. It’s a different kind of risk with a different kind of reward, but if you’re smart with your bets then you can make your money last for awhile.

That said, Wonderland is an awesome place to take kids and I had a lot of fun when I used to have a season pass. If nothing else, Wonderland is a great place to enjoy Toronto’s summer weather where you can be free to channel your inner child. No matter how hard they try though, they can never compete with Disney World.

Transform Your Trip With Disney’s MagicBands

Wearable technology is no longer an innovation to fantasize about; it’s actively shaping how we interact with brands. Before there was the Apple Watch, Disney invested $1 billion in introducing MagicBands to Walt Disney World guests.

I’m proud to say that I’m still a child at heart and I love all things Disney. I experienced the benefits of the MagicBands technology firsthand on my last trip to Walt Disney World.
