Trivia and Treats at Campbell’s HQ

Campbell's

Imagine if your employer rewarded you for knowing the company’s history inside and out. Campbell’s partnered with Allen & Gerritsen’s A&G Labs for an innovative employee engagement initiative that does just that. Campbell’s added an interactive level to their cafeteria’s vending machine and in doing so, they prove that vending machines can do extraordinary things.

As you can see in the video, the screen on the vending machine asks employees trivia questions about Campbell’s. If they get two out of three questions correct, then a prize will drop out at the bottom. Usually it’s a small snack, but a few lucky winners can win a GoPro camera or Fitbit.

The element of mystery adds to the fun and it’s not surprising to see that employees want to gather around and watch as their peers answer questions. What a unique thing to do during a break!

The Edmonton Escape

Hot On The Street - West Edmonton Mall - Sea Lion

December is a month of reflection. Publishers encourage readers to start making lists of resolutions. Employees carve out more time to spend with loved ones. There’s suddenly an increased pressure to not only shop but also think about our past and establish goals for the future.

As Jeanne Beker discusses in Globe Style Advisor, escaping concrete jungles for rustic destinations can do wonders. Evidently, the article inspired me more than I realized. It gave me the urge to relax in an unfamiliar Canadian city and eliminate other destinations that would allow me to kick back in a warmer climate. Shortly after reading her advice, I booked a flight to Edmonton, Alberta.

Next Issue

I like to read at home.

Introduction

Rogers’ Next Issue magazine subscription service and app legitimately changed my life this past year. At first, the transit ads for software that’s essentially ‘Netflix for Magazines’ made the trial tempting, but it wasn’t until I was offered an extended trial as a Klout perk that I recognized its true value.

I’ve always enjoyed reading magazines for the articles, pictures and tips. I’ve always had at least one annual subscription to a print edition (or at least since the days of Teen People and YM!). I’ve always liked reading.

It’s always important to dress for the job you want. Yet no matter how many magazine spreads are dedicated to work-appropriate attire, women repeatedly seek more advice about what to wear.

Women of Influence sought to answer our questions on Tuesday evening by hosting Lisa Tant at One King West. Throughout her speech, Lisa emphasized the importance of being present and shared three main pieces of advice: find your passion, be social and be honest.

Find your passion

Lisa discovered her entrepreneurial drive as a teenager when she realized she could make beautiful things that people want to buy, such as embroidery. The “Type A creative crazy person” was eager to tag along on buying trips to LA and San Francisco during high school. Her parents demanded that she maintain good grades while pursuing a career in fashion and Lisa refused to let them down.

Paint And Fly

If you have a delayed flight or long layover, shopping is a pretty solid timekiller.

Recognizing that tourists tend to be laidback, it’s interesting to see how brands are tapping into the opportunity to promote impulse purchases. Beauty brands are targeting travellers with colourful new kiosks at American airports. Skin care and makeup products can already be found in duty-free shops; however, Benefit and Essie are smart because selling products in mobile kiosks increases exposure to passersby.
