How Instagram Is Transforming The Future Of Entertainment

How do people have time to stay active on Instagram, watch reality TV and keep track of so many faces? On top of everything else! Running my social media like it’s The Sarah Show keeps me busy, but I’m also hooked on Bethenny Frankel’s commentary.

There’s so much pressure to have main character energy and share that with the world every day. Gorgeous rich people are eager to capture their lives without the drama and everyone seems to have something to say.

“The scariest part of reality shows is that it is out of your control. The best part of being an influencer is that you can direct it yourself, and reveal what you want,” Rebecca Jennings emphasized to Refinery29.

Now anyone can feel like they’re starring in their own reality show and if you produce YouTube videos, subscribers are more likely to watch you on TV! There’s an ongoing loop because reality shows produce influencers, so unknown individuals often appear on reality shows to build a huge following they can leverage later.

As Instagram thrives on voyeurism and minimizes the creepiness, the app replaces the allure of reality TV. Meta surfaces content from people you’re curious about and then suddenly you recognize their partner, kids and pets etc. You’re probably familiar with their best friend and favourite café too.

Obsessed with this headline in Us Weekly!

No one’s reaping the benefits of treating Instagram as your own show quite like Bethenny Frankel. Speaking about social media in her latest cover story for Us Weekly, Bethenny Frankel said:

“This became the reality show. This became what I always knew I wanted, and also the direct-to-consumer of it all.

People are like, “When are you going back on TV?” I’m like, “I am [on TV]. This is it. We’re watching the show right now.” I can’t make more money [by] going and sitting in Jimmy Fallon’s seat, having to go to a studio and do it the way they want, or Kelly Clarkson or Drew Barrymore.

I make as much money as they do sitting in my house, in my pajamas. This is my talk show and I get to be myself.”

The Kardashians remain my favourite reality stars and their Hulu/Disney+ series is the only reality show I watch. I check out the odd other episode of reality TV, such as the Survivor finale when Erika Casupanan won or The Golden Bachelor premiere, but that’s it.

However, if reality shows help you relax, I had a great chat with Amanda Goetz about how TV relates to productivity. “If we give 100% to the thing in front of us, we’d feel less guilt,” Amanda said. That applies to Love Island too! We gushed over how MTV’s The Hills raised millennials and inspired me to launch a blog!

After countless hours watching others live their best life, my favourite tip surfaced online: create more content than you consume. If they’re creating and you’re watching, they’re winning. Unless it’s educational, in which case, I hope it helps!
