Sex And The City Fans Can Quote It, But Can’t Spell It

And Just Like That… Sex And The City is ending. I loved watching reruns of the original series on TBS and enjoyed seeing the movies in theatres. Unfortunately, streaming the highly anticipated yet disappointing revival resulted in mass hate watching.

Here’s my review: The cartoonish exaggerated versions of the main characters’ former lovable selves overshadowed the beauty of their co-star: New York City. They continued shopping at luxury department stores and lunching at nice restaurants, but the reboot failed to act like an ad for my favourite city.

Instead, Miranda mocked Rosie O’Donnell’s character, a tourist who she met at a lesbian bar. Everybody without a peanut allergy goes to the M&M store! If you love chocolate, it’s a must-see. Sex And The City put so many local hotspots on the map and didn’t need to mock it. So what if the nun went to Broadway and suggested eating at Tavern On The Green? There was nothing wrong with her nor the landmarks, yet Miranda and Carrie teased her behind her back.

Sex and the City Hotspots On Location Tours New York Cosmopolitan Drink

Despite showing snippets of real locations in New York, the reboot alone would not warrant a special tour because it doesn’t entice you to hop on a plane to visit. When I went on the Sex And The City Hotspots Tour run by On Locations Tours back in 2013, it had to be on the itinerary! I also went to The HBO Shop and picked up a SATC souvenir shot glass, which I’ve never used but don’t regret buying.

The pathetic revival didn’t improve until three seasons later. By the time it got its groove back, it’s wrapping up for good. I’ve enjoyed the new cast and characters Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) and Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker). I also liked Nya Wallace, so it was nice to see Karen Pittman as a mom in the Netflix series Forever.

It was much more fun to be a fan of the classic series before it became so cringeworthy. Charlotte’s quote, “I’ve been dating since I was 15! I’m exhausted! Where is he?” is one of my favourite lines in TV history. And “A Woman’s Right to Shoes” was one of the most memorable episodes. Carrie pointed out how single women are celebrated differently than married or pregnant women.

In honour of the Sex And The City finale, I’ve decided to share my first public clip from my new stand-up comedy set.

It’s an iconic show, but do fans even know how to spell it? I couldn’t help but wonder!
