It was fun to chat with country music singer-songwriter Cam Galloway. With 200K monthly listeners on Spotify, my youngest podcast guest is quickly outgrowing the title of a rising star!
His dad encouraged him to perform at an open mic at 15 years old and he’s had his family’s support since day one. “One thing kind of led to another. In a small town, word gets around really quick.” He’s lucky to have his brother capturing his career as his personal photographer and videographer.
Cam Galloway has been selected as one of four finalists in the Country Rising talent competition presented by Cottage Springs. The winner will get a record deal with Starseed Entertainment, a $10,000 cash prize and the chance to perform at The Reklaws’ show at The Kee to Bala.
“The Kee is right where I live, so I’ve been growing up watching concerts there, including The Reklaws. It would be a pretty full circle moment to go from being in the crowd to being on that stage.” Cam added he’d invest the cash prize to help him grow his music career.
Growing up in Muskoka has been incredible for Cam. “We live in a very lucrative market. Everyone from the city comes here and they want live music all the time, whether it’s private cottage parties, breweries, festivals. I work like six days a week in the summertime, playing music.”
Cam Galloway has had some fun opportunities that clearly motivated him to conquer Canada’s country music scene and beyond. For example, we talked about his internship at a radio station. “I’m a musician and I love playing music, but there’s a whole other side to this business that I’m still learning.”
We also discussed his rare run-in with Ed Sheeran while travelling in the UK. “He’s the most down-to-earth person I’ve ever met.” After performing at Deerhurst Resort where Shania Twain launched her career, Cam’s future can only go up from here!
