Think Like A Recruiter To Find Your Next Podcast Guest

Finding your dream podcast guest is a unique form of recruitment that illuminates the larger impact of personal branding. Whether you’re a celebrity or CEO, listen up!

Even though we’ll communicate for less than an hour, I need to make sure your profile aligns with my brand. I want to be proud of every guest on my YouTube channel.

There’s a lot of research that happens behind the scenes. ChatGPT helps me weigh the pros and cons of potential podcast guests before sending interview requests and then of course I do more digging.

For example, a PR firm contacted me about a popstar with millions of followers. I quickly discovered they’ve had some questionable connections and choices. It was brand new information to me, but many fans are online even more than I am. (Shocking, I know!) That means they’d know all the controversial details that surfaced during research. So instead of hoping that the popstar might share a YouTube link, I decided to pass on them as a podcast guest.

It seems like there’s a misconception about personal branding. It’s usually associated with finding a job on LinkedIn or a partner on Hinge. Your personal brand also determines whether you’re invited on podcasts. Podcasting has become a more popular term than blogging, but of course this applies to approaching people for Q&As too.

While I balance job hunting and podcasting simultaneously, it’s interesting how this process offers insights into a hiring manager’s perspective. Unfortunately, it’s very easy to eliminate candidates before you’ll ever get the chance to book a call and be charming on camera.

Even if your audience thinks your posts are funny and your posts safely align with your company’s social media policy, you might turn off lurkers with potential opportunities without realizing it. Keep that in mind whether you have a corporate or creative career!

The recap is pretty simple: I’m looking for smart and successful guests without shady backgrounds! Feel free to send me a message on LinkedIn or Instagram if you want to chat about how I choose experts and celebrities as interview guests. Do you want to be next?
