Roosevelt had a big impact on a small venue when he performed at the Danforth Music Hall. Bopping along to recognizable beats and new favourites as I heard them live for the first time was a fun way to kickstart the weekend.
He had the coolest lighting I’ve ever seen! The way the lighting synchronized with his music it seemed like the lighting was its own character in his show. The stage design was phenomenal. His lighting and special effects set the mood really well! It was odd when he still asked fans to turn on flashlights in the encore. It feels like a cliche at this point and it’s not like he’s trying to create a campfire atmosphere.
I only use words when it feels natural and I’ve never seen another musician create amazing *vibes* with instruments and lighting. He didn’t share any commentary and just said he was happy to be back in Toronto. I had no idea what he wore until I watched his Instagram Stories after the show. It was purely about music and vibes!
Roosevelt was very efficient with time and space while onstage. I noticed that when he stayed in one place to perform, I wasn’t following him around (with my eyes or phone!) so then I focused on enjoying the music. That’s key!
Once I learned he toured with Hot Chip, I saw the similarities and understood why I’m a fan of Roosevelt too. Hot Chip was one of my most played artists on iTunes and thankfully Spotify introduced me to Roosevelt. Now Roosevelt’s opener Kenzo Cregan is also on my radar.
My recent concerts such as Shania Twain, Pink and the Jonas Brothers were fun because of nostalgia. Listening to Roosevelt’s electronic synth-pop made me optimistic about the future, which is appreciated given current events.
