I can’t believe I met Busy Philipps! I’ve been a big fan since Dawson’s Creek and I was so excited to see her at Just for Laughs.
Busy brought her co-host Caissie St. Onge to record a new episode of her podcast Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best. They joked about how they’ll need to edit it and said they may do something similar in more cities!
At the end of the show, they introduced special guest Atsuko Okatsuka who’s a new comic to watch. The pandemic motivated her to hustle and now she’s onstage with Busy with an HBO special in the works! Busy closed the show by singing with Joe Pernice.
Busy’s big story was about how she introduced Birdie to Harry Styles and then I had my own meet and greet *on the street*! We met outside the Bluma Appel Theatre. I used to sell subscriptions for Canadian Stage, so it was such a cool experience. It’s tempting to order a Cameo from Busy, but seeing her live was much cheaper!
Busy’s hot pink book has been part of my Zoom background for over a year. I loved her memoir This Will Only Hurt A Little. Part of me wished she talked more about her experience on Dawson’s Creek in the book, but I understand that she had so many personal stories to share that are more important than gossiping about Katie Holmes.
Towards the end of the book, she talked about how the response to her Instagram Stories inspired her to pursue her own talk show. And then the talk show became a podcast. Now that I know more about her life, it will never be the same!
I love how Busy got a lox and cream cheese sandwich from Schmaltz Appetizing and told her followers to go to the Bata Shoe Museum. I hope she comes back to Toronto!
