It’s interesting to see Valentine’s Day posts on social media from brands considering it’s a Hallmark holiday. I’ll highlight the posts I like and ignore the embarrassing ones I stumbled upon. Let’s just say that making a pun about the word “sweet” isn’t going to make the cut. Perhaps you’ll get some ideas for next year!
My favourite Valentine’s Day posts fit into 3 categories: roundups, greeting card templates and community. Roundups are easy to create while greeting card templates require more design resources. In 2018, I wrote about brands creating templates for Instagram Stories, so it’s cool to see this trend continue on a larger scale. Community posts are always a smart choice too!
Roundup Posts
You can make roundups using multi-photo posts, collages and/or links to articles. For example, Expedia posted 4 photos on Facebook with a poll in the caption to encourage comments and engagement. Expedia’s photos make me dream about a winter escape. I have no honeymoon plans whatsoever, but Expedia’s post makes me want to travel.
Greeting Card Template Posts
Templates are a really fun way to encourage your fans to promote your brand by sharing your content. We’ve been tagging friends in the comments and sending posts in DMs for a long time. This takes that to the next level. It’s exciting to spot something online that you know someone will love and you don’t have to think twice about passing it along. That can be about celebrities like hot musicians or products.
Valentine’s Day is all about making loved ones feel good. These templates help you show someone that you’re thinking of them! Too broke to buy a real card? Send one of these instead! Papyrus stores are shutting down, so this trend has true potential.
The Jonas Brothers reclaimed the boy band throne and I’m not complaining. After meeting Nick Jonas in New York a few years ago, I can’t think of any boys I’d rather see on a card. I love how they used their lyrics to create this. It’s super cute!
Even with Comic Sans, this tweet garnered over 5,000 likes! Follow the band’s lead by exploring how you can make your own template with minimal effort and art!
Complex created so many templates that they didn’t fit in one tweet. There’s something here for every millennial, depending on which pop culture icon you’re interested in! You can tell that they’re invested in this idea because they made some last year and added new ones for 2020.
Community Posts
Valentine’s Day is a natural opportunity to recognize your fans and share user-generated content. It’s important to thank your customers and followers in a non-cliche way!
YouTube produced videos of singing telegrams called #LoveNotes that feature some of the best comments. With light branding and feminine colours, they embraced their online community that lets content creators thrive.
Hopefully these examples will inspire you to share compelling content on future holidays. If you’re not a social media manager, then you can brainstorm low-key ways to do something on your personal accounts. Lots of love to everyone who has supported this blog!
