Considering how much I adore Disney, it’s not surprising that I loved the Color Factory. The Color Factory is a temporary, interactive art gallery in New York known for its Instagrammable photo ops.
The website says each visit lasts about an hour, but I spent 2 hours exploring the exhibits and taking photos with my mom. Speaking of photos, they give you a card with a QR code when you arrive, so you can put your phone/camera away in some locations and let their cameras work their magic. This proved to be helpful in the Merry Go-Round Room, where there were cameras that could record short videos of you spinning around from above.
The Color Factory is 20,000 square feet and divided into 16 rooms, each with a different theme designed by a different artist. In one area, you are instructed to answer questions about yourself and follow a flow chart on the ground. The answers eventually lead you to a room. Inside the room, the Color Factory reveals your secret colour. Usually I keep secrets to myself, but sharing this with you seems like a no-brainer. Naturally, my colour is red!
Before I went to the Color Factory, I noticed that many previous guests were in a ball pit. I have not been in a ball pit in about 20 years, so I didn’t know what to expect. Well, it turned out to be super fun! After taking off my shoes, I walked into the ball pit and realized how comfortable it is. Once you’re in there and sink in, you don’t want to leave! Guests of all ages can have a ball. Pun intended. In fact, even Bryan Adams went in the ball pit when he visited New York to promote Pretty Woman: The Musical.
While walking through the Color Factory, you can also take a few free gifts. These gifts included food, such as candy and ice cream, as well as small products, such as pins and postcards.
Visiting the Color Factory was a great experience and made my birthday trip to the Big Apple more joyful. The rest of the New York run is sold out. Hopefully it will pop up in more locations soon.
