A Fangirl At A. Human

Earlier this month, I went on a birthday trip to New York with my mom. This marked my 5th trip there. A few days before I left, Kim Kardashian West posted on Twitter and Instagram about a special necklace that “moves to the beat of [her] heartbeat”.

Then the media explained that Kim’s friend Simon Huck would launch a special collection of wearable art in New York on my birthday, September 5. Usually Kim promotes events that are far away from Toronto, but this was something I could attend!

The A. Human exhibit is conveniently located in SoHo, near the Color Factory, so I went the same day. While I waited outside for my 7 PM appointment on Thursday September 6, I saw Olivia Culpo exit in a gorgeous gold dress. Unfortunately, I couldn’t identify her until I later saw her on Simon’s Instagram Stories, but I knew it was someone famous. It was New York Fashion Week, she looked stunning, and she had an SUV limo waiting for her.

Inside, a small group of us were introduced to the collection with a short presentation. An A. Human representative told us to approach the exhibit with an open mind. When I walked in, I saw models that were so still, they looked like mannequins. When they moved their eyes, mouths or toes, you could tell they were real, which was mind-boggling.

A few minutes later, I recognized Simon and got so excited. Simon is not only a PR expert who has appeared on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, but also a Canadian and a Queen’s University alum. He was very approachable and we had a chance to chat while I was there. Simon was so polite that he agreed to retake our photo so I could get the perfect shot. When I introduced him to my mom slash photographer, I said, “This is my Kris Jenner,” and he laughed.

(In case you missed it, you can read about my experiences with Caitlyn Jenner and Kim’s other BFF Jonathan Cheban on the blog.)

A. Human is a really interesting and futuristic exhibit. The website calls it “an immersive experience unlike anything you’ve ever seen” and it’s so true. This exhibit about body modifications is perfect for content creators. Make sure you buy tickets before it closes at the end of the month.

My experiences at A. Human and the Color Factory convinced me to look for temporary art exhibits next time I go to New York. I can check out The Met anytime.
