I’ve attended a couple great shows at Just for Laughs in Toronto, featuring Lena Dunham and Miranda Sings. I’m a huge fan of Jenny Slate’s acting chops, so I was thrilled to see she was part of the lineup for this year’s festival.
Yesterday I went to see a conversation with Jenny Slate at the TIFF Bell Lightbox and it was amazing. I knew I was going to like the event as soon as she said, “film sets are a lot like camp.”
Jenny’s silly at times, as she says things like, “I’m like a doodad of a person,” but she’s actually wicked smart and I like how she expresses both sides of her personality. I’m obsessed with the way she speaks. You can tell she’s a Columbia grad because she’s outspoken in an intelligent kind of way, yet she still uses filler words, which makes her even more relatable and likeable. I really want to hang out with her!
When she shared her reaction to seeing Sean Spicer on the Emmys, I was dying to watch an award show with her and hear her commentary live. Jenny said she believes that if more women organized the 2017 Emmys, it would’ve gone differently.
To top it off, I tweeted a friend who said she was going to see Jenny perform stand-up last night and then JENNY SLATE LIKED MY TWEET. Forget about humblebrags for a moment because that was beyond exciting and I have to record this.

Coincidentally, I had just tweeted something about Lena Dunham and Jenny was once a guest star on Girls. At the event, Jenny said that being a guest star is like being the new girl and she admitted it can be awkward.
Now that Jenny Slate knows I exist, I’m going to leave these links to my movie reviews featuring her here. (Imagine if she read my blog!) These are for you, Jenny:
