Tonight I was scrolling through my Facebook feed and I stumbled upon a Facebook video from WIRED. I often save Facebook videos to binge watch on the weekend, but this one caught my attention enough to see it ASAP.
It had the cover of an old WIRED magazine with a bright yellow cover and the post copy said it was from July 1997 i.e. 20 years ago. I was 6 years old! I didn’t read WIRED in elementary school, so I figured it could be interesting to watch a current editor reveal what they published inside.
In the video, Mike Calore poked fun at old Apple ads (they’re almost vintage!) and gave a shout to a former intern who now has a senior position at WIRED. Likewise, he explained that a researcher at IBM who was featured in the magazine has made his way to the C-suite at IBM. A lot can change in 20 years if you work hard.
Everyone loves posting about Throwback Thursday. What’s great about this content series from WIRED is that it’s easy to execute.
They filmed an employee talking about their product from a meeting room in a casual way. His commentary comes across as off the cuff and authentic. Plus, you can film it on a phone. No fancy equipment or expensive talent needed. It’s just a guy discussing a brand he’s passionate about – his employer – and his favourite topic – technology.

Look out for WIRED’s next Throwback Thursday video on Facebook.
