Once I became a fan of the hosts of MTV’s The Hills: After Show, there was no going back. Dan Levy and Jessi Cruickshank now work for CBC and they’re both integral members of Toronto’s cultural scene.
When I heard that Dan was going to host a menswear launch party at the Gap store on Bloor St., I immediately RSVP’d. Once there, he recognized me from his eyewear party at Jonathan and Olivia, so it wasn’t awkward. He told me that he’s hosted this event 3 years in a row and he’s been working towards it ever since he worked for Gap as a salesman before he was famous.
As for the rest of the party, I finally had a chance to taste a chicken and waffle together! How did they know I’ve had Texas on the brain? Thankfully it was bite-sized, so it wasn’t that unhealthy.
I was surprised that for an event sponsored by a magazine, they didn’t distribute any copies of it. I’ve only read GQ online (most recently, the Kim Kardashian West cover story), so I was curious to see what’s inside and I thought I could share it. I think that was a missed opportunity for the publisher.
On a separate note, it turns out that the Gap X GQ event is not a prime place to meet guys. Everyone was well-dressed, but people stuck to talking to their friends exclusively. Imagine if there was a Gap X Tinder event!
