Instead of spending time at one company or school, I had a choose-your-own-adventure style ‘gap year’ that echoed the name of Neil Patrick Harris’ autobiography. After studying personal branding, career development and digital marketing, I crammed several unique experiences into a challenging year that changed my perspective of the global economy. The ‘work hard, play hard’ mantra came to life and thankfully I reaped rewards along the way.
Walt Disney World
Once a Disney fan, always a Disney fan. I examined the Florida theme park through the critical lens of someone who watched Mickey Mouse Monopoly for course credit. Whenever I tapped my RFID bracelet, I was impressed by Disney’s innovative approach to entertainment and tourism.
BuzzFeed
The best part of an otherwise uneventful trip to visit friends was touring BuzzFeed’s New York HQ. The newsroom was quiet, the meeting rooms had cheeky names and I posed with a Ryan Gosling cutout.
Twitter Canada Holiday Party
At the party with its own dedicated account, everyone was dedicated to having a good time. Friends greeted me with two thumbs up and we took selfies using the Twitter Mirror, just like celebrities with verified accounts.
Thank you to my friends, family, colleagues and other loyal readers who support Hot On The Street. I look forward to sharing more anecdotes with you soon. Happy New Year!
