Wearable technology is no longer an innovation to fantasize about; it’s actively shaping how we interact with brands. Before there was the Apple Watch, Disney invested $1 billion in introducing MagicBands to Walt Disney World guests.

I’m proud to say that I’m still a child at heart and I love all things Disney. I experienced the benefits of the MagicBands technology firsthand on my last trip to Walt Disney World.

The luxurious appeal of the convenient bracelets becomes apparent once you realize how MagicBands can replace your wallet. With a tap of the wrist, you can buy souvenirs and meals onsite. What’s more, you can even gain access to your hotel room at a Walt Disney World resort without fishing out a key from your purse — you’re already wearing it! Suffice to say, I downsized my cross-body bag on my trip, which was nice because Walt Disney World parks are huge. Plus, MagicBands are made of lightweight rubber and you quickly forget you’re even wearing the accessory.

MagicBands are easy to use and they’re available in adjustable sizes for adults and children, not to mention a variety of colours. They’re also waterproof, which is a great feature if you’re heading to the pool or a water park.

Better yet, you don’t need to be technologically savvy to understand how they work. Through advanced radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, MagicBands let you navigate through the theme parks with ease.

FastPass, which lets you jump the line at popular attractions, has come a long way, as it now integrates with the Disney app and syncs your preferences with your MagicBands. Less time waiting in line means more time to explore and have fun, so count me in! Of course that also means more time to shop for souvenirs, but I saved that for Downtown Disney.

Your MagicBand is a souvenir in itself and it’s small to tuck away at home. With tons of patents in place, it’s clear why Disney remains a leader in the digital space and I look forward to returning to Walt Disney World (or another Disney theme park!) and wearing a MagicBand again.
