What To Expect From The Disney On Broadway Tour

Whenever I’m in New York, I always go to the Disney Store in Times Square, so it’s unsurprising that I booked tickets to the Disney on Broadway tour. The tour has been on my radar for a few years and the timing finally worked out on my last trip.

We stayed in the Theater District, so the meeting place for the tour was steps away from our hotel. It was nice to go on the tour with my mom because we saw The Lion King musical together.

The tour is split in 2 parts: walking around Times Square and then visiting Disney’s New Amsterdam Theatre. I wish we spent more time at the theatre and less time on the street. We heard general information about how Times Square has evolved, whereas I was more interested in Disney. I enjoyed hearing about how Walt Disney approached Julie Andrews to star in Mary Poppins after seeing her in Camelot at the Majestic Theatre, but I could find most facts online.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Rob Ford is in Hollywood right now for the Oscars. The closest I got to Hollywood recently was Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. The weather was warm, but there were no celebrity sightings, unless Disney characters count. I met Stitch, Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the cast of The Incredibles. Time spent waiting in line for a hug from each of them was time well spent. Without character meet and greets, it would be difficult to call Disney World the happiest place on earth.

As I get into Oscars mode, I can’t help but wish I was back at Disney World on the Great Movie Ride, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or the Rock n Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. There’s so much more to Disney World than Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom and as a movie buff, Hollywood Studios is one of my favourite theme parks.

Some Kind of Wonderful Summer

My Facebook album featuring summer 2012 highlights is called Paradise, after the hit song by Coldplay, which captures my sentiment this summer. Here’s why:

Walt Disney once said, “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” Going backstage at a concert has been a dream ever since meeting a Marianas Trench band member working the merchandise table at their 2009 Western O-Week show.

Saturday afternoon, I managed to meet Jesse Labelle, a 2012 headliner at the same show. Leaving that tent afterwards broke my heart, but at least I also got to meet my mitZine editor IRL for the first time!
