Concert Review: Celine Dion

Hot On The Street - Sarah Prince - Celine Dion

There’s nowhere I’d rather spend the night before my birthday than the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. In 2010, I saw Cher and Chelsea Handler – two amazing shows in one night! This year, I went to see Celine Dion and it was a good decision because her latest show is phenomenal.

Before Celine came onstage, there was a video of fans lip-syncing the song I Drove All Night all over the world. I would’ve preferred if Celine sang it herself in person, but the video was a lot of fun and a neat way to incorporate social media right off the bat. Video was integrated in the show again a few songs later to show the audience clips of Celine’s past performances and the timing was impeccable as all the words were synchronized perfectly to Celine singing the same lyrics live. Although she never spoke about her husband Rene, he appeared in clips from home videos for which everyone cheered.

Celine has a huge discography of songs to choose from for her set list, so I was surprised and disappointed that she chose so many of other artists’ songs to perform instead of her own. These artists included the Bee Gees, Frank Sinatra, Prince and Elvis.  It was interesting to hear her sing virtual duets with these legends, but it was unexpected.  Nevertheless, her 30-piece band, complete with 2 backup singers, supported her beautifully no matter what she sang.

5 is my go-to number, as I was born on September 5, and that’s precisely how many outfits Celine wore in the show. First she appeared in a metallic silver evening gown, then she changed into a yellow dress, followed by a black dress, which was replaced with a white glittery dress and finally, she wore a turquoise dress for the encore.

There’s nothing like hearing My Heart Will Go On live and I wouldn’t want to hear any other artist cover it. Listening to her 90’s classics live was a real treat for this 90’s girl and I would go see her again in a heartbeat.
